Qi2: A Major Step Forward
Introduced in 2023, Qi2 brought magnetic alignment to the mainstream wireless charging standard. The magnets help the phone and charger align precisely, improving charging efficiency, stability, and user convenience.
The original Qi2 supports charging power of up to 15W, making wireless charging faster and more reliable than previous Qi generations.
Qi2.2: Faster Charging with Up to 25W
Qi2.2, officially called Qi2 25W, was launched in 2025. Its biggest upgrade is the increase in maximum power from 15W to 25W—nearly 70% more power than the original Qi2.
The new standard also introduces improvements to power control, efficiency, foreign-object detection, and power-loss management, helping support higher-power wireless charging more safely and efficiently.
Key Differences
Why Does Qi2.2 Matter?
The biggest advantage is speed. Under suitable conditions, Qi2 25W can charge a compatible smartphone from 0% to around 50% in approximately 30 minutes.
For manufacturers and brands, Qi2.2 also creates new opportunities for high-power wireless chargers, car chargers, charging stands, and multi-device charging solutions.
In short: Qi2 made wireless charging smarter; Qi2.2 makes it significantly faster. As more smartphones adopt the new standard, Qi2.2 is likely to become an important direction for the next generation of wireless charging products.
