How Does Wireless Charging Work? | Cwin
Learn how wireless charging works, from electromagnetic induction and coil alignment to Qi standards, charging speed and OEM/ODM wireless charging solutions.

How Does Wireless Charging Work?
Wireless charging transfers power from a charger to a compatible device without using a charging cable. Most smartphone wireless chargers use electromagnetic induction to transfer energy between two coils.
1. How Does Wireless Charging Work?
The process involves three basic steps:
- Power Transfer: The charging pad generates an alternating magnetic field through its transmitter coil.
- Energy Conversion: The receiver coil inside the phone converts the magnetic field into electrical energy.
- Battery Charging: The phone's internal circuitry converts and regulates the power to charge its battery.
The charger and device also communicate to help control power delivery and charging safety.
2. What Affects Wireless Charging Performance?
Several factors influence charging speed and efficiency:
- Coil Alignment: Proper alignment helps improve power transfer.
- Charging Distance: Thick cases or excessive distance may reduce charging performance.
- Power Output: Actual charging speed depends on the charger, device and supported charging standard.
- Temperature Management: Heat control helps maintain stable charging performance.
- Device Compatibility: The charger and device must support compatible wireless charging technology.
3. What Is the Qi Standard?
Qi is a wireless charging standard developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). It helps ensure compatibility and interoperability between certified chargers and devices. Qi2 introduces magnetic alignment for supported products, while newer Qi2 25W products support higher charging power.
